June 17, 2013
The home pool advantage may have been the key at the Florida Police and Fire Games Swim Meet Sunday at Academic Village Pool in Pembroke Pines.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department and Geni Burts of the Hollywood Police Department dominated the day-long swim meet.

Meet director Jennifer Martin of the Pembroke Pines Police Department dominated her age group events in record-breaking times. Martin won four events and broke three meet records. Martin, 32, won the 50-yard backstroke in 30.88, breaking the previous record of 33.82 set by Mary Mott of Volusia County in 1991.
Martin won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:05.24, breaking the 1995 meet record of 1:15.09 set by Lynn Carter of Sarasota Police. Martin won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.45, bettering the previous meet record of 1:15.70 set in 1991 by Mary Mott of Volusia County. Martin also won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:22.74 and was a member of two winning relays. Martin was high point winner for the women’s 30-34 age group with 80 points.

Cook, 44, won the 25-yard freestyle in 12.19, was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:45.71) and 50-yard breaststroke (43.76) and led off two winning relays.Groves, 35, won the 50-yard breaststroke (38.92) and 25-yard freestyle (11.54) and was second in the 50-yard freestyle (28.07) and 100-yard freestyle (1:07.65). He was also a member of two winning relays. Groves tied for second for high point age group honors.
